Oden in Osaka
In Osaka, oden was long called kanto-daki: a light, pale dashi, beef tendon on skewers, and a counter to eat it at.

Oden, ingredients simmered for hours in dashi, is a dish of the whole country, but each region tunes it. Osaka's version is lighter than Tokyo's, with a pale broth built on kombu and seasoned with light soy, and older people in the Kansai region still call it kanto-daki (Kanto-style simmering), a nod to where the dish was thought to come from. The classics are here: daikon that has soaked up the broth, eggs, konnyaku, fried tofu and fish cakes. Kansai pots are known for beef tendon (gyu-suji) on skewers, and many also include octopus.
Oden in Osaka is often eaten at a counter, with a drink, as an evening snack rather than a meal, and many shops are small standing bars or izakaya.
