Privacy

What happens to your information when you explore Soupmap.

Your places and notes

Browsing and planning do not require an account. Saving places, lists, trips, passport visits, recipe bookmarks, private cooking notes and contribution drafts requires sign-in. These saves are stored privately on Soupmap’s server under your account so you can access them on other devices. New saves do not fall back to browser storage.

Older browser saves are left intact. They are not automatically combined with an account; saved places are imported only when you choose to import them. Display preferences and temporary cooking controls, such as units and checked ingredients, may still use browser storage.

Email saves, restaurant claims and passport

When you request a soup link, we store your email, selected place or city, delivery status, and your optional marketing preference. Resend delivers the requested email when configured. Marketing consent is separate and is not required to receive your link.

Restaurant claims store your name, role, business email, phone and requested services for ownership review and follow-up. Claims are private and are not automatically verified. Account passport check-ins store your account ID and visited places on our server. You can undo a check-in in the passport widget. Existing device-only passport notes stay on your device.

To request deletion of lead or claim information, contact the site operator using your original contact email through the contact channel on your claim correspondence. Email-save records and unverified claims are scheduled for deletion after 90 days. Verified claims are retained while the claimed profile is active.

Current soup weather uses Open-Meteo. The weather proxy sends rounded restaurant coordinates to the provider and caches results. The Soup Weather Index is a playful comfort score, not a weather warning or restaurant rating.

Your location

“Nearest to me” asks your browser for permission. The directory uses your coordinates on your device to sort places by straight-line distance. This feature does not put your coordinates in shared URLs or save them to your account.

Google Maps features

Loading Google restaurant details, imagery or Street View connects your browser to Google. These requests share technical information such as your IP address and referring site. Restaurant lookup sends the selected shop’s name and reported location. Google handles the photos, reviews and other details shown in its panel.

Google features are governed by the Google Privacy Policy and Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service. Soupmap does not copy Google restaurant photos or reviews into its open-data catalog.

Accounts, hosting and analytics

Clerk provides account authentication. Your email is used for your account; creating an account does not subscribe you to marketing emails. Hosting and analytics providers may process technical request information to operate the site and understand its use. Where enabled, Soupmap’s interaction analytics record actions such as filter changes and save counts; the custom event code does not send search text, private notes or shared-list links.

Use your account controls to manage lists and sign out, and your browser settings to manage local data and location permission. Links to external websites are governed by their own privacy policies.
